Commercial Manager/General Manager Ref 0201 The Company The company is a leading provider of satellite-enabled fleet management systems, ship security alert systems (SSAS), vessel tracking and other asset monitoring products to the maritime
industry. Government organisations, flag administrations and more than 600 companies in the
commercial shipping, offshore supply and leisure marine sectors use the company's products and
services, tracking and monitoring more than 18,000 ocean going vessels worldwide.
Founded in 1998, the organisation is a global operator with 60 plus staff in offices in London and
Hong Kong, and a network of distributors and service centres worldwide. The company also plans
to open an office in the Americas in 2010.
The company has a cosmopolitan profile and includes 16 nationalities who between them speak
20 languages.
The Position
The company has sales teams based in London (handling relationships with Direct and Key
Accounts and managing the company's distributor networks in EMEA & Americas) and in Hong
Kong (handling Direct and Key Accounts and the company's distributor network in the Asia
Pacific region).
The client is currently looking for a Sales Executive to join their London sales team, based at
their head office in Bayswater. This will be a permanent position.
Job Purpose
Our existing London sales team comprises three senior Key Account managers who between
them handle some 150 major accounts. The main focus of the Sales Executive will be to take
responsibility for all the smaller direct accounts, currently numbering 200 plus; to increase
revenue from existing customers; and to engage with and close prospective customers.
The scope of the role means that the successful candidate will have substantial sales experience
in a B2B (and probably technical) environment as well as first class organisation and
communication skills. This is primarily an office-based position. Full product training will be given.
Key Responsibilities
- To work with the sales team to sell the company's products and services to the
- commercial marine sector.
- To be the prime point of sales contact for all smaller Direct Accounts.
- To increase sales revenue by developing long-term relationships with existing Direct Accounts.
- To extend the company's customer base by responding to leads and enquiries, identifying new prospects and developing relationships with potential customers.
- To gather market and customer information and pass that information to sales management and product development teams.
- To advise customers on forthcoming product developments and special promotions
- To liaise with Customer Support and Finance to ensure customers receive an excellent
- all-round service from the company.
- To visit prospects and existing customers, if required.
- To represent company at trade exhibitions and events.
Key Skills and Experience Required
- Proven track record of at least 3 years' sales experience in a B2B/technical environment
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Professional telephone manner
- Fluency in English is essential; other languages would be an advantage
- Strong numeracy and analytical skills
- Computer literate with proficiency in MS office software
- Confidence in presenting at senior executive level
- Experience in the maritime industry would be a distinct advantage. In any event we
- expect you to show a demonstrable interest in the sector
- Working knowledge of Salesforce.com would be an advantage.
